Dentures can be held in place in various ways at different levels of comfort and stability. Unlike traditional removable dentures, fixed implant dentures are non-removable tooth replacement devices that are anchored comfortably in place using dental implants.

There are several advantages of fixed implant dentures over traditional ones. One of the greatest benefits is their ability to preserve the jawbone and facial support even after teeth are lost.

When a tooth is missing, the gum and bone tissue around the tooth root begins to deteriorate. Without stimulation, this tissue loss continues, creating the appearance of a collapsed or sagging facial structure.

While traditional removable dentures can actually accelerate this breakdown, dental implants actually stop this progressive tissue degradation, giving you a healthier, younger appearance.

How Do Fixed Implant Dentures Work?

In order to determine the best site to place each of the implants, we will take different types of records. Dr. MacPherson will take records to determine where the teeth need to be in order give you the facial support and function needed. Then we will take a three-dimensional x-ray to map out your jawbone, sinuses and nerve structure. Once this information is collected, Dr. MacPherson and the implant surgeon will determine the optimal position for the implants.

Once these sites are identified, we begin your implant surgery while you are under local anesthesia. Once the implants are placed by the surgeon, Dr. MacPherson will then install a temporary set of prosthetic teeth while your implants bond with your bone tissue over the next several months. The placement of these implants provide stimulation to your bone, spurring natural, healthy growth of the surrounding tissues and providing even more stability for your final dentures. Once the osseointegration process is complete, you are ready for your final custom-designed dentures, which are screwed directly onto your dental implants.

Some fixed implant dentures can be placed with as few as four dental implants total, making them the ideal solution for those with advanced gum and bone tissue loss who cannot withstand one dental implant per tooth.

Once in place, you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence and without fear of your dentures loosening or slipping again. As an added benefit, the titanium posts also stimulate bone growth where your teeth were missing, creating a stronger, healthier foundation for your teeth, preventing the onset of periodontal disease, and giving you a more attractive and defined facial structure.
