You’ve mostly come across the term “cosmetic dentist” as you research porcelain veneers. But, what makes someone a cosmetic dentist? You may not realize it, but the American Dental Association (ADA) does not recognize cosmetic dentistry as a specialty.
This means there is no additional training required to use the label of cosmetic dentist. In fact, Prosthodontics is the only ADA-recognized dental specialty that includes cosmetic dentistry. (The
ADA definition of the specialty
includes, “diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients.”)
Dr. Pamela MacPherson is the only female board-certified prosthodontist in San Diego. When you need porcelain veneers or other cosmetic dental work, trust a San Diego dentist with the qualifications to get the job done right!
